We went on a mini vacation last weekend, heading up to LA for a night to see Mumford & Sons play at the Hollywood Bowl. The show was amazing. It made my "top five live shows of my life" list. I've said it before, but there is something so wonderful to me about live music, an entire audience on their feet moving, and a band belting out lyrics that speak to my soul. Such energy, delight, and non-stop smiling. Since we had to drive so far, we spent the night and adventured around LA a bit the day after the show. First, we explored Hollywood, eating a deliciously unhealthy breakfast, seeking out my great-grandfather's star, and wandering around the Griffith Observatory.
I think the pancakes we ate for breakfast deserve a paragraph of their own. We ate at The Griddle Cafe, and oh my goodness. We ordered "A Time to Love" pancakes to share. Buttermilk pumpkin pie pancakes filled with streusel, butterscotch chips, and caramel, topped with homemade whipped cream and powdered sugar. Let's just say they melted in my mouth, we barely put a dent in them even with our combined effort, and it's a good thing I woke up and ran six miles the next morning, because that probably worked off one bite of these pancakes. In conclusion, if you find yourself in LA, you should go to The Griddle Cafe. It was magical.
